The Casting Exercise

Casting Practice Steps

Standing in front of you is a clock with 9 to your left and 3 to your right. There is another clock on the ground, in front of
you, with 9 on the left and 3 on your right. On your right side, if you are right-handed is a clock with 9 straight ahead of you
and 3 behind you. (If you are left-handed, the clock is on your left side with 9 directly behind you and 3 straight ahead.)

Visualize these clocks when you first start and it will make it easier to learn the casting. Most of the rod travel is done
between 10 & 2, (D & E)when casting. The exception to this is you ALWAYS have the tip near the surface of the water
when you first start to do a cast.

You will start this exercise with simply "flicking" the line from one direction to the other along the hose ( C ) shown
below. Read thru the directions below before starting.

First, strectch out a 50' gden hose and mark it in the middle. (You can use anything, I just prefer the garden hose
because it is easier to stretch out in a straight line.)A is the rod. Lay it over C, the hose, 3rd eye down from the
tip. Place the rod with the tip in position D for right handers and E for left handers. Pull out about 25' of line and
strectch it out along the hose towards the end of the hose. (D for right handers nd E for left handers. Now, you
are ready to start.

Remember, this is just for teaching the muscles, and building muscle memory, for casting properly. You can use
this same method for correcting bad habits you may have developed over the years.
